The Queen paid a surprise visit to London’s Paddington Station to observe the new Elizabeth line.

The 96-year-old monarch was joined for the ceremonial visit by her youngest son, the Earl of Wessex.

The Buckingham Palace termed it as a “pleasant development.”

It was unclear if she would be able to attend, partially because she has been experiencing mobility issues.

Organizers, on the other hand, had been “advised of the likelihood” of her attending.

The monarch emerged from a translucent lift, holding a walking stick and smiling pleasantly.

She was dressed in a Stewart Parvin double-wool crepe coat in sunshine yellow.

Rachel Trevor-Morgan wore it with an A-line silk dress in yellow, royal blue, and turquoise, as well as a matching hat.

She wore her Singapore brooch as well.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, and Transport for London Commissioner Andy Byford greeted her and Prince Edward.

“It’s lovely to see her,” the PM remarked.

He added that people were “very pleased and affected, and thankful to Her Majesty for coming to launch the Elizabeth line today.”

The Queen and Prince Edward also visited with train conductors, station employees, and apprentices.

“That was brilliant. I did enjoy that. It was good fun,” the earl said.

The Elizabeth line, named after the Queen, runs from west to east across London and will open to passengers on Tuesday, May 24.

The monarch was instructed how to use an Oyster payment card if she wanted to use the new service.

The induced project will boost capacity and cut journey times across the capital.
