A teenager in North Carolina has been punished in connection with a tragic shooting in 2019.

Kalere R. Anderson, 18, of High Point, was sentenced on May 12 to a minimum of 25 years in prison for first-degree murder and 64-84 months in prison for firing a handgun into an occupied residence following a jury trial. The sentences will run concurrently, according to the police news statement.

Anderson was condemned for the shooting and killing of Kobe Manwarren on October 9, 2019.

Officers were dispatched to the junction of Triangle Lake and Hickory Chapel roads after receiving a report of shots fired. Manwarren, 17, died in the hospital after being shot in the chest. At the time of the shooting, he was a junior at Ragsdale High School.

Another victim, who was 15 at the time, was shot and had to have his leg amputated as a result.

At the time of the incident, police said they thought a silver four-door vehicle passed through the area, then stopped at a stop sign. Before fleeing, the suspects fired roughly 30 bullets.

A few days after the incident, Anderson was charged. Police said, “Despite being only 15 years of age has had several other contacts with the police department in regard to violent crime in the High Point community since July of 2018.”
