According to a Turkish interpretation of the call, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan offered to host discussions between Russia, Ukraine, and the United Nations in Istanbul during a phone chat with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

According to the readout, Erdogan emphasised to Putin the “need for efforts that would reduce the harmful impacts of the war” and reestablish peace between Russia and Ukraine “as quickly as possible.”

“President Erdoan stated that they are willing to meet with Russia, Ukraine, and the UN in Istanbul and play a role in a possible observation mechanism if both sides agree on principle,” according to the readout.
