A blast struck a vehicle in the Spin Boldak district of southern Kandahar province on Thursday, killing six people, including five security personnel, authorities said Friday.

Mawlawi Mohammad Hashim Mahmoud, the police chief of the Spin Boldak area, confirmed the tragic attack on Thursday morning, saying an explosive device left over from previous wars struck a vehicle.

Meanwhile, an Afghan local news station reported on Friday that the blast killed six persons, including a civilian and five government security personnel.

Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August of last year, there have been fewer roadside bombings and violent occurrences, and the Taliban-led caretaker government has urged all Afghans to return home and work together to restore their country.
