The European Council’s conclusions on Ukraine condemned Russia’s aggression and voiced strong support for Ukraine, its people, and political leadership in their battle against an unjustified Russian invasion.

According to Ukrinform, the European Council conclusions on Ukraine were published on the European Council’s website.

“The European Council condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine unequivocally. It calls on Russia to halt its indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as to evacuate all of its troops and military equipment from Ukraine’s entire territory within internationally recognised borders, immediately and unconditionally. The atrocities perpetrated by Russian soldiers, as well as the pain and destruction wreaked, are indescribable “According to the document.

The EU leaders emphasised that Russia must immediately provide humanitarian access and ensure the safe movement of all civilians affected. The European Council wants international humanitarian law to be fully implemented, particularly the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War. It also urges Russia to facilitate the safe return of Ukrainians who were forcibly deported to Russia.

“The European Council applauds the Ukrainian people’s and government’s courage and determination in defending their country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and freedom. The European Union remains steadfast in its commitment to assisting Ukraine in exercising its inalienable right to self-defense in the face of Russian aggression and establishing a peaceful, democratic, and economic future. It will continue to collaborate closely with foreign partners in this respect “According to the text,

European leaders emphasised the need to examine war crimes committed in Ukraine by Russian invaders and the inevitability of punishing all those guilty for these atrocities in a separate section of their conclusions.

“The European Council commends all those who assist in gathering evidence and investigating war crimes and other severe crimes, and applauds the International Criminal Court’s Prosecutor’s tireless efforts in this regard. It also commends the work of Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, who has received financial and capacity-building assistance from the European Union and its Member States. It applauds the creation of a Joint Investigation Team, led by Eurojust, whose role has been bolstered, as well as Europol’s continuous operational support. In accordance with international law, Russia, Belarus, and all those responsible shall be held accountable for their conduct “The findings were written.
