Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said at a televised news conference on Monday that Iran is prepared to negotiate a “good deal” with international powers, blaming the United States for delaying discussions to renew their 2015 nuclear treaty.

The nuclear pact appeared close to revival in March, but talks were thrown into disarray over whether the United States would remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) from its Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) list.

Washington says that the IRGC is in charge of elite military and intelligence forces that are running a global terrorist campaign.

In 2018, the then-president of the United States, Donald Trump, reneged on the agreement under which Iran limited its nuclear programme in exchange for economic sanctions relief, causing Iran to begin breaking its basic nuclear constraints roughly a year later.

The United States stated last week that it awaits a constructive response from Iran on resuming the accord without “extraneous” concerns, possibly referring to Iran’s demand that its Guards be removed from a US list of terrorist organisations.
