TEHRAN: The FM of Iran stated on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic and the EU will continue to communicate about the next round of talks to resurrect the 2015 nuclear deal as the two-day indirect talks between Tehran and Washington concluded in Doha.

As the talks on the removal of the sanctions continued, intense negotiations were held through the mediation of (EU coordinator) Enrique Mora in Doha, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani tweeted, adding that “Iran presented its views and proposals about the remaining issues and the other side voiced its concerns.”

The EU team wrote on Wednesday that despite “two intense days of proximity talks in Doha,” the EU team has not yet made the desired headway.

“We will keep working with even greater urgency to bring back on track a key deal for non-proliferation and regional stability,” he added.

Iran agreed to limit its nuclear programme when it signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with other countries in July 2015. In exchange, sanctions against Tehran were eased.

In May 2018, however, former U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement and reinstated Washington’s unilateral sanctions against Tehran, prompting Iran to reduce some of its nuclear commitments under the agreement in retaliation.

The nuclear talks began in Vienna in April 2021, but they were interrupted in March due to political tensions between Tehran and Washington.
