Mother files lawsuit after her son accidentally murdered by a police officer
- The mother of John Hurley Hurley has filed a federal lawsuit against the Arvada Police Department.
- Hurley however shot and killed by Officer John Brownlow in June 2021.
After cops mistakenly shot and killed her son for an active shooter, a woman from Colorado filed a federal lawsuit on Wednesday.
On the day he however shot in June 2021, John Hurley drew his weapon and pursued suspect Ronald Troyke. After Troyke was accused of ambushing and fatally shooting Officer Gordon Beesley.
The records stated that Troyke harbored “a strong animosity for the police.”

The lawsuit claims that instead of thinking about how to protect himself, Mr. Hurley dashed out of the store. He pulled a concealed carry gun from his belt and ran toward the gunman.
Brownlow shot and murdered the Good Samaritan after spotting Hurley holding Troyke’s rifle.
Brownlow decided that he needed to immediately eliminate the man in the red T-shirt without even offering a warning.
Boleyn’s attorneys stated in a statement regarding the lawsuit that “there is no telling how many lives Troyke might have claimed if not for Johnny’s intervention.”

After the officer claimed that Hurley appeared to be reloading the gun or attempting to modify it, district attorney Alexis King later exonerated Brownlow.
Detective David Snelling commented on the case in a statement that stated, “Based on the District Attorney’s findings and after an internal assessment. The APD decided that Officer Brownlow’s actions however compliant with APD policy and procedures.”
“At this moment, the APD however not exploring modifications to its actual training or response procedures.”
