Namibia will host the fourth conference and exhibition on the industrial revolution in Windhoek on June 7-8, Namibia’s president said on Thursday.

Hosted by the Working Group of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) appointed by the President of Namibia, this event will be held under the theme “The 4th Industrial Revolution as a driving force for green and inclusive industrialization”.

Namibia is a semi-arid country located in southwest Africa. The population is 2.5 million. The mass of the Earth is slightly smaller than France and Germany combined. For 100 years, Namibia was first colonized by Germany and later by a minority regime in South Africa.

Colonialism and apartheid created inequalities, which still produced visible divisions. One is the digital divide between most black rural communities and white urban cities.

“The Harambi II Development Plan Economic Development Working Group is tasked with assessing Namibia’s 4IR readiness and making recommendations for a coordinated policy and legal framework,” the statement said.

Local, regional and international delegations will be invited to attend the official opening meeting of Namibian President Heig Geingob.

A public exhibition will take place on June 7 before the official opening on June 8. The fair will showcase new technologies in a variety of areas and provide a platform for online and public education, the statement said.
