Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated Thursday, after meetings with his Iranian counterpart in Tehran, that Moscow fully backs the resurrection of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world’s major countries.

Hossein Amirabdollahian reiterated Iran’s position at a joint news conference with Lavrov, stating that all sanctions against Iran must be lifted to revive the accord and blaming the United States for stalling talks that began over a year ago.

“We are pursuing the full re-establishment of the deal with no concessions on our position,”  Amirabdollahian said, adding that he hoped to keep negotiations on track and asked the United States to be pragmatic and assist in bringing the negotiations to a conclusion.

Since March, indirect talks between Tehran and the administration of US President Joe Biden to resurrect the accord have been on hold, mostly due to Tehran’s demand that Washington remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from the US list of designated terrorist organisations.
