According to the Observatory, which has a large network of informants within Syria, Israeli surface-to-surface missiles killed at least three Syrian officers near Damascus last month.

Since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes against its neighbour. The Israeli military has defended them as necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring a foothold on Israel’s southern border.

Syria’s civil war has killed about half a million people and displaced roughly half of the country’s pre-war population.
