Tunisia and the United Kingdom have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on British technical and financial help for Tunisia’s renewable energy growth, according to the Tunisian news agency.

Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, minister of state for South and Central Asia, North Africa, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom, and Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy Neila Nouira Gonji signed the MoU in Tunis, Tunisia’s capital.

Tunisia has established a programme aimed at producing up to 35% of domestic needs from renewable energies between 2022 and 2025, according to a Tunisian minister on the sidelines of the signing event, adding that “the MoU is an opportunity to take advantage of the British expertise in this field.”

As per the British official, “the United Kingdom now wants to be the largest foreign investor in Tunisia’s energy sector.”
