Turkey issued arrest warrants for 18 Turkish nationals on Friday for allegedly giving financial support to the Islamic State (IS) group, according to the Turkish news agency.

The police teams conducted simultaneous raids in 12 regions of Turkey as part of an operation centred in the capital, Ankara, and arrested 12 individuals.

The people are said to have given money to the Islamic State through their bank accounts.

The Turkish government found out that the money was sent to IS members in Turkey who were fighting in Syria, as well as to their families.

The Turkish government designated IS a terrorist organisation in 2013, attributing lethal incidents in Turkey since 2015 to the group. Turkish anti-terrorist authorities have been conducting operations against IS members within the country.
