In the United Kingdom, 77 new cases of monkeypox are discovered.

The overall number of confirmed cases now stands at 302, according to health experts.

Experts claim that the risk to the general public “remains low” because it is difficult to disseminate.

The government’s failure to release updates on monkeypox cases over the long bank holiday weekend contributed to today’s dramatic rise.

The virus is spread by intimate personal touch and can live on surfaces like bedsheets and towels.

Infection might be detected by unusual rashes or ulceration.

Many of the cases so far are related to “big events or parties,” with many more expected for the summer.

Dr. Ruth Milton, senior medical adviser at UKHSA, said: ‘The risk to the general public from monkeypox is still low, but it’s important that we work to limit the virus being passed on.

“We remind people that they should be alert to new spots, ulcers or blisters on any part of their body.”

“If anyone suspects they might have these, particularly if they have recently had a new sexual partner, they should limit their contact with others and contact NHS 111 or their local sexual health service as soon as possible, though please phone ahead before attending in person.”
