In order to counter Russian artillery tactics, the British government is giving the Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), and hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers have finished their military training there.
A portion of a British-led programme that has been carried out by more than 450 Ukrainian armed personnel with backing from New Zealand included drills near Salisbury, southern England, where the media was invited to film Ukrainian troops loading and firing 105mm light cannons. Also demonstrated in use were the MLRS systems.
Following Russia’s invasion on February 24, the West is attempting to assist Ukraine in repelling Russian forces by giving increasingly sophisticated weapon systems and the ability to operate them. The training is one component of a comprehensive international support package.
To disarm Ukraine and get rid of its “fascists,” Moscow claims to be carrying out a “special military operation.” Russia is allegedly waging an unjustified war of aggression, according to Ukraine and its Western partners.
“It’s a force multiplier,” Captain James Oliphant of the Royal Artillery, who was involved in the three-week MLRS training element, told reporters.
“Because it is a tracked vehicle and their rocket systems are on wheels, it will provide them better maneuverability and increase their likelihood of survival.”
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, told NATO leaders on Wednesday that as Russia’s attacks on several fronts stepped up, his nation needed more money and weaponry to protect itself.
Zelenskiy described British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a “wonderful friend” when he visited Kyiv unexpectedly this month. Johnson proposed a separate training programme for Ukrainian military that could train up to 10,000 soldiers every 120 days.
The attitude of their Ukrainian counterparts was lauded by British coaches.
As you might expect, they began out with an incredibly high and needy hunger, but as they grew accustomed to using the system, Oliphant said, “that has started to quiet down.”
They have reached a point where the battery commander is training his troops using his own doctrine and strategies.
