The frequency of instances where security agents and prosecutors are under investigation for working with the enemy raises concerns for the heads of the concerned organisations.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who earlier today signed orders expelling Iryna Venediktova, the prosecutor general, and Ivan Bakanov, the head of the security service.

“I decided to remove the Prosecutor General from her post and remove the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (from his duties – ed.). As of today, 651 criminal proceedings have been registered regarding high treason and collaborative activities of employees of prosecutor’s offices, pretrial inquiry bodies, and other law enforcement agencies. In 198 criminal proceedings, charges were pressed against the relevant individuals,” the president said in a video address.

In particular, Zelensky pointed out that around 60 SBU and prosecutor’s office personnel are still there in the seized region and actively working against our nation.

Such a wide range of offences against the fundamentals of the nation’s security and the contacts between Ukrainian security agency employees and Russian special services personnel that have come to light raise very severe concerns for the appropriate authorities. Every one of these queries will receive a suitable response, the president said.
