In favor of Vice-President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, who denies allegations of corruption, thousands of protestors have gathered in Argentina.

In the city of Buenos Aires, they gathered in front of her house and began torn down security barricades and fighting with the police.

According to local media, four demonstrators were taken into custody and at least five police officers suffered injuries.

Attorneys are requesting a 12-year prison sentence for the former president as well as a lifetime prohibition from holding public office.

While serving as president from 2007 to 2015, the 69-year-old is accused of cheating the state and participating in a plot to transfer public monies.

According to local media, it infuriated her followers, some of whom camped out in front of her house for days in a show of solidarity. According to Ms. Kirchner, she is being victimized.

When protesters began tearing down police-erected barriers placed around MS Kirchner’s residence on Saturday, the demonstrations turned violent.

After leaving office as president, Ms. Kirchner was involved in multiple other corruption cases. It will likely take several months before the trial’s verdict is known.
