Russia is not attempting to end the war it is waging against Ukraine through diplomacy. According to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US ambassador to the UN, who spoke in Ghana on Friday as part of a visit to the continent.
I’ve also been told by some that Africans don’t really like to have their opinions forced upon them. I recognize that. We don’t want another Cold War, either. And Africans have the right to determine their foreign policy stances without interference, coercion, or intimidation, the envoy added.
She further emphasized that the activities of Russia, not those of Ukraine, are to blame for the current starvation crisis facing scores of millions of people in Africa.
“Many African leaders have expressed their desire for diplomacy to put an end to the war, and we could not agree more. There will be a need to find peaceful coexistence between Moscow and Kiev. It is always preferable to settle disputes by negotiation as opposed to using force. Sadly, there has been no sign that Russia is willing to accept a diplomatic resolution, the envoy said.
The envoy added that conversations and dialogue must take place on terms that “the Ukrainians themselves set.”
