A woman in R. Kelly’s second federal trial said the singer had sex with her “hundreds” of times before she turned 18. “Jane,” 37, stated inappropriate contact with Kelly began when she was 13.

The musician faces child pornography, obstruction of justice, and other allegations in Chicago. His lawyers say he’s no “monster” and deserves a fair trial. Robert Sylvester Kelly is charged with generating and receiving child pornography, obstruction of justice, and luring minors into sexual behaviour.

He’s serving a 30-year term for sex trafficking and racketeering from a different trial in New York last year. The current case relies heavily on “Jane’s” testimony. Prosecutors will show jurors sections of at least four movies Kelly made with Jane.

Jane revealed sexual encounters Kelly allegedly taped throughout her two-hour testimony. Kelly gave her money in one. Jane said the Chicago Tribune that Kelly said she was a prostitute if the video was aired. Kelly and Jane both denied being in one of the films in a 2008 trial. Kelly was eventually acquitted.

When asked Thursday about her initial denial, she told jurors she “feared something awful would happen to Robert.” I defended him. Some commentators say the present trial is a retrial of 2008, when the singer faced 14 child pornography allegations.

This trial also includes two of Kelly’s former workers. Milton Brown is suspected of getting child pornography via Derrel McDavid, Kelly’s former business manager. Both men are innocent.

During opening arguments this week, attorneys for Kelly and the two former employees denied the charges, asked for jurors to allow Kelly a fair trial despite public attention, and denounced a “mob-justice” mentality surrounding the case.

Some of individuals set to testify were “criminals” who “extorted him” and got immunity deals, they said. Jane testified Thursday that Kelly had “uncountable” intercourse with her starting at age 15. Photos from high school showed jurors how young she was.
