Elon Musk asks Twitter employees to choose between being “very hardcore” or losing their jobs
Twitter's new CEO Elon Musk has given employees until Thursday to prove...
Trump’s Twitter account is restored by Musk
Tweeting that 51.8% of Twitter’s 15 million+ users had voted to lift the restriction, Elon Musk said that “the people have spoken.”
The former US president, though, might not take the stage again after earlier declaring: “I don’t see any justification for it.”
The potential for inciting violence led to the suspension of his account in 2021.
Just a few days after Donald Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol in Washington, DC, on January 6, Twitter’s previous management took action.
As the US Congress attempted to recognize Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election, hundreds of rioters stormed the building. Four civilians and a police officer died in the ensuing fighting.
Following the rioting, Donald Trump’s tens of millions of followers on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts were also suspended.
A few months later, he introduced Truth Social, his own social media website.
The Republican declared earlier this week that he would run for president of the United States once more in 2024.
The most wealthy man in the world, Mr. Musk, acquired control of Twitter in October for $44 billion (£37 billion).
In response to worries that he might relax Twitter’s rules against hate speech and disinformation, he quickly started a series of radical adjustments within the massive social media company.
In response to queries on whether he would restore Mr. Trump’s account little over a week before the US midterm elections on November 8, he tweeted: “If I had a dime for every time someone asked me if Trump is coming back on this platform, Twitter would be minting money!”
He informed the staff earlier this week that the company’s office buildings would be temporarily closed, effective right away.
The statement comes as there are rumours that several employees were leaving after Elon Musk told them to commit to “long hours at high intensity” or depart.
Elon Musk had obviously come to the conclusion that it would be simpler and possibly more democratic to simply ask Twitter users whether they thought the former president should run again.
On Truth Social, Donald Trump urged his supporters to vote since he thought the poll was significant “Vote positively right away, but don’t be alarmed—we’re not going anywhere. Reality Social is unique “.
It’s a strange assertion. Why would Mr. Trump encourage his supporters to vote if he has no plans to run again?
Compared to Twitter, Truth Social has a small user base. Only 92,000 individuals, according to app experts Sensor Tower, downloaded Truth Social in September. Over the same time span, about 15 million users downloaded Twitter.
The platform he used to rally support and control the news cycle, Twitter, was Mr. Trump’s favourite app. He would do anything to get his megaphone back.
Although he would have a much wider audience on Twitter, he has a financial stake in the success of Truth Social. The Trump Media & Technology Group owns the app, therefore it’s unlikely that Truth Social would survive if Trump returned to Twitter.
That contributes to the explanation of why Donald Trump hasn’t clamoured to join Twitter as of yet.
However, in the long run, he will need to balance political and financial considerations, and he may decide to run for president once more.
