Cambodia casino fire killed 10 people near
Police and local media report that a massive fire at a Cambodian hotel-casino near the Thai border has claimed at least 10 lives.
At around 23:30 (16:30 GMT) on Wednesday, a fire started at the Grand Diamond City hotel-casino in the border town of Poipet.
According to officials, there were about 400 people inside the burning structure.
Social media videos depict what appear to be people falling or jumping from higher buildings.
The hotel, which faces the border, was housing a sizable number of Thai nationals, according to local media. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the authorities.
According to a Thai foreign ministry official who spoke to the news agency, several of the injured were sent to hospitals in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province.
A crucial border crossing between the two nations is Poipet. Considering that gambling is largely forbidden in Thailand, it is also well known for its casinos, which are frequented by many Thai citizens.
