Israel demands evacuation of northern Gaza in day: UN
The Israeli military made a request to the United Nations for the relocation of 1.1 million residents from northern Gaza to the southern part of the enclave within the next 24 hours early on Friday, according to a UN spokesperson.
This development has raised concerns among Palestinians, as it could be an indication of Israel’s planned ground offensive.
The Israeli military has not yet provided any comments or statements regarding this warning, but they have deployed tanks near the Gaza border and conducted airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave in response to Hamas’s efforts to liberate Gaza from Israel’s decades-long occupation.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric expressed the United Nations’ deep concern over this situation, as it would have devastating humanitarian consequences.
The UN strongly appeals for the rescission of any such relocation order to prevent what is already a tragedy from escalating into a catastrophic situation.
Dujarric also mentioned that the Israeli military’s order applies to all UN staff and individuals taking refuge in UN facilities, including schools, health centers, and clinics.
Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, seemed to confirm that such a warning had taken place and criticized the UN’s response, describing it as “shameful.”
He urged the UN to focus on condemning Hamas and supporting Israel’s right to self-defense.
Salama Marouf, head of the Hamas government media office, viewed the relocation warning as an Israeli attempt to spread false propaganda to create confusion among citizens and undermine internal unity. He encouraged citizens not to engage with these attempts.
According to Gaza authorities, Israel’s airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of over 1,500 Palestinians, including hundreds of children.
Four medics were also killed, and the Palestinian Red Crescent claimed that they were deliberately targeted. Israel has placed Gaza, which is home to 2.3 million people, under siege and launched a bombing campaign that has devastated entire neighborhoods.
