Reports from local media indicate that the police in the central Japanese city of Toda have responded to a shooting incident at a hospital.

Two individuals, a doctor in his 40s and a patient in his 60s, have reportedly been injured.

According to reports, the suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle and sought refuge in a post office in the neighboring city of Warabi, taking hostages, as confirmed by the city’s official website.

The suspect is described as having a medium build and is believed to be in his 40s or 50s. As a precautionary measure, nearby facilities have been placed under lockdown.

It’s noteworthy that shooting incidents are exceedingly rare in Japan due to the country’s strict gun ownership regulations.

Japan permits civilian ownership of hunting rifles and airguns, but the acquisition of firearms involves rigorous examinations and mental health assessments.
