Washington’s primary objective has been to ensure that the intense competition and disagreements between the world’s two largest economies on issues ranging from trade to Taiwan and the South China Sea do not escalate into conflict.

Chinese observers believe that Wang’s visit could lay the groundwork for a potential meeting between the two heads of state.

However, they also emphasize the importance of Washington addressing Beijing’s concerns and demonstrating sincerity in its efforts, as mentioned in a commentary by China’s state-controlled Global Times.
