An Australian bouncy castle company, Taz-Zorb, has been charged with breaching health and safety regulations nearly two years after a tragic incident in which six children died.

The children fell about 10 meters after strong winds blew the castle skywards at a school fair. Prosecutors allege that Taz-Zorb “exposed the children to a risk of death or serious injury.”

Parents of the deceased children welcomed the charges. The workplace safety regulator filed a complaint to the Devonport Magistrates Court, charging Taz-Zorb with a Category 2 offense under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012.

The charge carries a penalty of up to AUD 1.5 million.

The families of the victims are still seeking answers about the school’s involvement in the tragedy, and a wider inquest into the incident has been put on hold until the WorkSafe investigation is concluded.
