Dubai Crackdown: Kids on Quad Bikes Face Dh50,000 Fine
Dubai Police confiscated several quad bikes following numerous complaints from residents about disruptive motorcycle riders in their neighborhoods.
A senior police officer revealed on Friday that an investigation identified a group of children as the source of the street disturbances.
“They were riding the recreational motorcycles, causing disturbances and generating noise in residential areas,” said Maj-General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police.
After tracking them to their residences, patrols seized the quad bikes, emphasized Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei. He underscored that using quad bikes on paved roads constitutes a serious violation of the law.
According to Decree No. 30 of 2023 on vehicle confiscation in Dubai, motorcyclists must pay a fine of Dh50,000 to reclaim their off-road bikes if found on paved roads.
“Recreational bikes are specifically designed for off-road driving in sandy areas and similar environments,” the officer said. “Their use on public roads is a concerning trend that puts riders and other road users at risk.”
Parents warned
In addition to highlighting the unlawful use of these bikes, Dubai Police issued a stern caution to parents, advising against permitting their children to ride these recreational motorcycles on roads.
Emphasizing the potential for accidents resulting from such irresponsible behavior, Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei stressed that parents would be held accountable for neglecting supervision.
Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei urged parents to prioritize their children’s safety by refraining from purchasing such motorcycles for them.
He noted that a significant number of recreational motorcycle riders, regardless of age, neglect proper driving behavior.
Therefore, he underscored the importance of community members reporting such violations through the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police App or by contacting the ‘We Are All Police’ hotline at 901.
Enhanced monitoring of these reckless practices could contribute to bolstering road safety in the emirate.
