Stuart Seldowitz, a former US State Department aide, has been detained by the police after allegedly directing anti-Muslim abuse at a New York City food vendor.

Seldowitz, seen in viral videos making inflammatory remarks and using derogatory language towards the vendor, claimed the vendor supported Hamas, which the vendor denied.

Seldowitz acknowledged his involvement in the videos, expressing regret for his actions. The NYPD has confirmed his custody, but details of any charges are not yet available.

Seldowitz, who had a career in the State Department and White House, previously worked for a lobbying company, which has severed ties with him.
