Former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter, wife of ex-President Jimmy Carter, has passed away at 96, confirmed by the Carter Center.

She peacefully died in a Georgia hospice care home while with her family. Diagnosed with dementia in May, she and Jimmy Carter, the longest-married first couple, celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary in July.

The Carters founded the Carter Center in 1982, continuing their humanitarian work known for mental health advocacy.

US President Joe Biden, former President George W Bush, and former First Lady Michelle Obama paid tribute to her contributions.
