A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 rattled the Banda Sea region in Indonesia on Wednesday, as reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).

The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 370 kilometers (229.9 miles) southeast of Ambon, Indonesia, and it was estimated to have occurred at a depth of about 146 kilometers.

Although the initial report by EMSC had indicated a magnitude of 6.8, subsequent data confirmed it as a 6.9 magnitude earthquake.

Fortunately, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PWTC) swiftly reassured the public that there was no imminent tsunami threat associated with this seismic event.

Indonesia, situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity, and authorities regularly monitor and assess seismic events to ensure the safety of the local population.
