North Korea may launch a third spy satellite as early as midnight on Wednesday, according to Japanese media reports.

Pyongyang has notified Tokyo of a nine-day launch window closing on 30 November, and Japan, along with South Korea, plans to “strongly urge” North Korea not to proceed, citing a violation of UN resolutions.

North Korea has faced two failed attempts to launch a spy satellite this year. The United Nations Security Council prohibits such launches, considering them a cover for testing the North’s missile technology.

South Korea is also set to launch its spy satellite by the end of November.
