• Sheikh Mohammed approves Dubai Metro Blue Line extension
• 30-kilometer project at Dh18 billion
• Covers area with up to one million residents

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, revealed on Friday the approval of the Dubai Metro’s Blue Line extension.

The 30-kilometer project, costing Dh18 billion, will span both underground and above-ground segments, covering an area inhabited by up to one million people.

The Blue Line features 14 stations, with seven elevated, including an iconic one, five underground, including an interchange station, and two elevated transfer stations linked to the existing Centrepoint station in Rashidiya and Creek station in Al Jaddaf, the eastern and southern termini of the Red and Green Lines, respectively.

Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter, “Praise be to God, we have approved the largest new project in the public transport sector in Dubai… The Blue Line Route of the Dubai Metro… with a length of 30 km, half of which is underground, at depths of up to 70 metres… and at a cost of Dhs18 billion and covers areas with a population of up to a million people, such as Marsa, Dubai Creek, Festival City, International City, Al Rashidiya, Al Warqa, Mirdif, and urban areas such as Silicon Oasis, Academic City, and others.

The new line will transport 320,000 new passengers daily.”

Sheikh Mohammed said, “The Dubai Metro is part of the spirit of Dubai… and Dubai’s daily life is linked to it, connected through it, and connected to all its neighbourhoods and residents with its presence.

2 billion people have used it since its launch in 2009… and billions of people will use it for decades to come, God willing.”
