The fate of 40 Indian laborers remains uncertain as they are trapped in a tunnel for over 72 hours in northern Uttarakhand state.

A landslide caused a part of the tunnel they were building to collapse on Sunday. State and federal rescue teams are employing a massive drill to reach the workers, who are 200m into the tunnel.

Authorities have established contact with the workers, ensuring their well-being with supplies of food, water, and oxygen. To expedite the rescue, more advanced drilling equipment is being brought from Delhi, slated to arrive on Wednesday.

Family members and construction workers are urging swifter action, while officials express confidence in saving the trapped men.

The tunnel collapse is part of a federal highway project aimed at improving connectivity to pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. The state, known for its sacred Hindu sites amid mountainous terrain, attracts millions of pilgrims annually.
