Efforts to rescue 41 workers trapped in a tunnel in India for eight days are undergoing a fresh approach after earlier methods were halted due to concerns about tunnel stability.

A part of the under-construction tunnel collapsed following a landslide in the northern state of Uttarakhand on November 12.

Initial plans involved pushing metal pipes through the debris wall, but a cracking sound prompted the withdrawal of rescue teams.

Now, officials are working on drilling two parallel tunnels as an “escape route” for the trapped workers. Families of the workers had protested, urging officials to expedite the rescue efforts.
