Serving the participants of the current COP28, Abu Dhabi is now running a round-the-clock bus service to Dubai.

Nine buses in an all-electric fleet transport people from Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal A to Expo City Dubai, the site of COP28, on 44 daily trips.

Under its Green Bus program, the Department of Municipalities and Transport at Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has started the effort.

“What distinguishes this service is that (it is) the first to provide intercity bus transportation between emirates, running 24 hours a day,” said Ateeq Al Mazrouei, director of the planning department at ITC.

These electric bus operations contribute to a daily reduction of 3.7 tons of carbon emissions by traveling 520 kilometers.

What happens after the conclusion of COP28?

After COP28 concludes on December 12, the buses will be included in Abu Dhabi’s fleet of public transportation vehicles.

“It will gradually be introduced as the expansion of green bus services in Abu Dhabi continues.”

After being fully integrated, the fleet is anticipated to travel 3,150 km per day and help save over 900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. It just takes two hours to fully charge an electric bus.

The program represents a “pivotal step” in favor of Abu Dhabi’s environmental preservation efforts and in lowering the environmental impact of public transportation. It is a part of the emirate’s dedication to supporting environmentally friendly transportation and offering services that successfully satisfy the demands of both locals and visitors.

“This initiative is committed to establishing a comprehensive transportation system that implements the strategy set by the Abu Dhabi Government to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050,” Al Mazrouei said.
