Elon Musk has raised an alarm about Italy’s declining birth rate, emphasizing potential implications for investors while noting a rebound in advertiser interest on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Musk shared his thoughts during the Atreju political event, hosted by the Brothers of Italy party led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

“I think X will be fine, and we are actually already seeing advertisers return to X. Brand advertisers are always worried about their brand…. But I think it’s a short-term issue,” Musk stated, assuaging concerns about the social media network’s viability.

Previously, Musk had warned that an advertising boycott could “kill the company.” He attributed the return of advertisers to X to the short-term nature of the issue and asserted that a “woke mind virus” had influenced organizations that had initially abandoned the platform. The term “woke” is commonly used to criticize those perceived as excessively socially conscious.

During the Atreju event, Musk expressed his disapproval of identity politics, describing it as “just no fun,” “very divisive,” and “anti-meritocratic.” He advocated for legal migration, emphasizing the importance of welcoming honest individuals willing to work hard. However, Musk also called for increased control over illegal immigration.

Drawing attention to Italy’s low fertility rate, Musk issued a warning about the potential consequences, stating that “people will disappear” without an increase in the birth rate. He stressed that migration should not be viewed as a substitute for domestic population growth and cautioned businesses considering investments in Italy about the associated risks.

Musk’s comments underscore the intersection of demographic concerns and economic considerations, prompting a broader discussion about the impact of declining birth rates on countries’ attractiveness to investors.
