Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi soon visit Russia for talks with Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin said, as the two countries strengthen economic and military ties in the face of Western sanctions.

“I can confirm. There will be Russian-Iranian negotiations on December 7,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday when asked about media reports of Raisi’s impending visit.

Last July, Putin paid a visit to Iran, and in October, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov went to Tehran for discussions with leaders from the region.

Western nations have alleged that Tehran is supporting Russia’s actions in Ukraine by supplying substantial amounts of drones and weaponry. Iran’s official news agency reported that President Raisi is planning to travel to Moscow, accepting an invitation extended by Putin.

The one-day trip will primarily focus on various matters, including economic interactions, and will also touch upon regional and global issues, with a specific emphasis on addressing the situation in Gaza.

“Bilateral issues, including economic interactions, as well as discussions about regional and international issues, especially the situation in Gaza, will be high on the agenda of the one-day trip,” it reported.
