A nearly six-hour delay ensued for an Air Canada flight traveling from Toronto to Dubai when a passenger opened a cabin door and fell 20 feet to the tarmac while the aircraft was at the gate.

Around 9 pm last Monday, local authorities in Canada responded to a call reporting that a man had opened an aircraft door and fallen onto the tarmac while the aircraft was boarding at the gate.

Emergency services promptly transported the individual to a local hospital for treatment, as he sustained minor injuries from the fall. Subsequent investigations revealed that the man was in a ‘state of crisis’ during the incident, leading to his apprehension by the police.

Toronto Pearson International Airport’s spokesperson mentioned that airport authorities were notified of the incident on Monday evening and worked closely with the airline to support and determine the immediate needs.

Although media requests were not immediately addressed by Air Canada, the airline later informed that the incident occurred as the Boeing 777 aircraft (flight AC056) prepared for takeoff at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The passenger, who had boarded the flight normally, deviated from his path and headed to the opposite side of the aircraft to open a cabin door. According to the airline statement, emergency services and authorities promptly arrived to assist the man.
