UAE: Ajman bans single-use plastics bags in 2024

The use of single-use plastic bags will be prohibited in the emirate of Ajman as of January 20, 2024.

The Ajman Municipality took to X to announce their plan to outlaw single-use plastic bags in all of the emirate’s retail establishments and shopping centers. This ruling will be implemented from January 2024.

The law is in line with Federal Law No. (2) of 2018 regarding integrated waste management, Ministerial Decision No. (380) of 2022 regarding the regulation of single-use products in the state’s markets, and the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment’s initiative to eliminate plastic bags from the UAE.
