A preliminary magnitude 5.7 earthquake has struck southern Greece off the coast of the western Peloponnese. There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the quake, which people also felt in the Greek capital and as far away as the southern island of Crete.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the quake struck Friday morning and was centered beneath the seabed near the Strofades islands, approximately 120km south-southwest of the western city of Patras.

Greece, situated in a highly seismically active region, experiences frequent earthquakes. However, the vast majority of them cause no injuries and little to no damage.
