Astronomers in Saudi Arabia have predicted that the Shawwal moon will likely be visible on Saturday evening, March 29, 2025, which means Eid ul Fitr could fall on Sunday, March 30. The new moon is expected to form at 2:00 PM on March 29 and remain visible for eight minutes after sunset.

However, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has stated that the chances of moon sighting on March 29 are low because the moon’s age at sunset in Makkah will only be five hours. According to Suparco, the Shawwal moon is more likely to be visible on March 30 instead.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has called on Muslims to look for the Shawwal moon on Saturday evening and report any sightings to the nearest court, whether they see it with the naked eye or binoculars. The sighting of the moon will officially mark the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid ul Fitr.

Ramadan began on March 1 in Saudi Arabia this year. If the moon is not sighted on March 29, Ramadan will continue for 30 days, and Eid will be observed on Monday, March 31. But if the moon is sighted, then Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30.
