Oman has declared June 29, 2025, as a public holiday for all workers in both government and private sectors to mark the beginning of the new Islamic year, 1447 AH.

This decision was officially announced by the Ministry of Labour, which said the holiday applies to all institutions so that people can observe the occasion with unity, peace, and religious devotion.

The ministry also mentioned that if any organization needs its employees to work on that day due to the nature of their services, it must be done with mutual agreement and proper financial compensation.

This mainly concerns essential services like hospitals, airports, security, and transport. The ministry added that the official announcement about the sighting of the Muharram moon will be made later by the concerned authorities. Earlier, the UAE had also announced June 27 as a public holiday for the same occasion.
