Washington: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told President Donald Trump he nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

During the visit of White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed President Donald Trump that he has nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The meeting aimed to strengthen the alliance between the two leaders amid ongoing efforts by the United States to broker a ceasefire in Gaza.

“He’s forging peace as we speak,” Netanyahu told reporters at the start of a dinner with Trump and other top officials on Monday. “In one country and one region after the other. So I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee. It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved, and you should get it.”

“Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful,” Trump said.

Netanyahu is not the first international leader to endorse Trump, he’s part of a broader pattern of foreign officials expressing admiration in hopes of influencing U.S. policy.

Recently, Pakistan has announced it would nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize, highlighting how some foreign leaders believe that flattery and praise may be the most effective way to garner favor from the U.S. president.

Trump has long expressed irritation about the fact that his first-term predecessor, Barack Obama, won the Nobel Prize in 2009 — a controversial decision that came before Obama surged US troops in Afghanistan.
