Washington: The U.S. State Department has officially stated that it does not support Israel’s recent military operations in Syria.

Spokesperson Tammy Bruce expressed the United States’ dissatisfaction with the escalation and emphasized its efforts to promote de-escalation and dialogue. She highlighted that the U.S. urges Syrian authorities to take a proactive role in pursuing peaceful integration and stability.

When asked about Washington’s stance on Israel’s military actions, Bruce declined to specify whether the U.S. endorses such operations when deemed appropriate by Israel. Instead, she reaffirmed the U.S. position condemning violence in Syria and confirmed ongoing cooperation with all conflicting parties to reduce tensions and foster diplomatic solutions.

On July 16, reports indicated that an Israeli airstrike targeted the Syrian military headquarters in Damascus, further fueling regional instability. This incident coincided with clashes between Syrian government forces and Druze militants in the city of Suwayda, according to Al Jazeera.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that conflicting parties in Syria have agreed to a ceasefire. He stated that he has engaged with various groups involved in the conflict, and that all sides are expected to honor their commitments to halt hostilities starting that evening.

In recent developments, Israel reportedly launched attacks on Damascus, targeting key government buildings, including the presidential palace and Ministry of Defence. Iran and Qatar issued strong condemnations of Israel’s actions. The United Nations Security Council has scheduled a meeting to discuss the escalating situation, focusing on the Israeli strikes and their implications for regional stability.
