U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will impose additional tariffs on India within the next 24 hours, citing India’s continued oil trade with Russia as the primary reason.

In a recent statement, Trump criticized India’s 25% existing tariff rate and said it would be increased. He called India “not a good trade partner” and accused the country of helping fuel Russia’s war in Ukraine by continuing to purchase Russian oil.

“India keeps buying oil from Russia, and that’s not okay. It’s helping to fuel the war machine in Ukraine,” Trump said.

He added that this decision didn’t make him happy, but he felt it was necessary, as India’s trade policies have long been unfair due to high tariff rates.

Just a day earlier, Trump had also warned of more tariffs on India for the same reason. In a separate social media post, he accused India of not only importing Russian oil in large quantities but also reselling it for profit.

“India doesn’t seem to care how many people are dying in Ukraine at the hands of Russian forces,” he stated.

Trump reaffirmed that he would move forward with even harsher economic measures, including a potential 100% tariff on countries that continue buying oil from Russia.

This aggressive stance adds new tension to U.S.-India relations and signals that Trump, if re-elected, may reshape global trade policies with a harder line.
