Ukrainian president met Donald Trump; talks about peace for Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met US President Donald Trump at the White House, where the two leaders held detailed discussions on prospects for ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
President Trump expressed optimism, stating that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin also wants to see the conflict resolved. “This is a golden opportunity to establish peace in Ukraine, which will benefit everyone,” Trump said.
He emphasized that any settlement must be permanent rather than temporary to prevent renewed fighting. “We all want the Ukrainian people to prosper. If things move in a positive direction, I am ready to hold trilateral talks with Zelenskyy and Putin,” Trump added.
Trump claimed credit for helping end six major wars in the past and reiterated his determination to work toward lasting global peace. “We stand united to ensure Ukraine’s security. My dream is a peaceful world where nations trade with each other instead of fighting,” he said.
President Zelenskyy stressed the need for strong security guarantees to safeguard Ukraine, saying, “We must support an end to this war, and we need clear assurances to keep Ukraine safe.”
Trump made it clear that the Russia-Ukraine war will end, though he could not specify when.
The meeting was attended by seven other prominent world leaders at the White House, who voiced collective support for joint efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.
