Hajj 2020: 244 people arrested for trying to perform Hajj illegally

On Tuesday, The Hajj security forces had arrested 244 people, who attempted to infiltrate the Holy Sites to perform Hajj in violation of precautionary measures and preventive protocols against coronavirus.

After gathering facts, disciplinary steps were taken against them, the Saudi Press Agency reported quoting a public security spokesperson,

“The security men have created a tight security cordon in and around the holy sites to enforce these regulations and catch the violators.”

Around 1,000 pilgrims will gather on Wednesday outside of Makkah on the Mina Valley to begin their spiritual journey, compared to nearly 2.5 million in 2019.

In June, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced it was sharply restricting this year’s number of pilgrims to protect global public safety faced with the continuing threat of coronavirus.
