Wildlife dept reports 5x increase in Markhor population in KP since 1985

In a positive development reported by the wildlife department, the number of wild Markhors has increased significantly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to recent findings, the Markhor population has surged fivefold over the last 37 years.

In 1985, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was home to only 961 Markhors. Fast forward to the present, the latest report indicates a remarkable increase, with the current Markhor population standing at 5,621 in the province.

This substantial growth is not limited to specific areas, as the number of Markhors is rapidly rising in Swat and Kohistan as well.

A recent survey sheds light on the distribution of Markhors in different regions. In Chitral alone, there are 2,427 Markhors, with 2,375 located in Chitral Gol, 660 in Kohistan, and 159 in Swat.

This encouraging trend reflects successful conservation efforts and signifies a positive impact on the Markhor population in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The increase in numbers is indicative of conservation initiatives contributing to the preservation of wildlife in the region.
