Punjab government’s new ‘Mulaqat’ app lets families book jail visits online

Modern technology is being introduced to make government operations faster

The Punjab government has introduced a new mobile application called “Mulaqat” that allows families of prisoners to schedule prison visits online.

Officials said the app is part of efforts to modernize public services and improve the prison system. It enables visitors to select a date and time to meet inmates without needing to visit the prison beforehand.

According to authorities, the digital system is designed to reduce long queues, ease overcrowding, and make the visitation process more organized.

Prison officials said the app will also help staff manage visitor schedules more efficiently and improve overall coordination inside jails.

Under the new system, families can choose an available time slot through the app and arrive at the prison at the scheduled time for their visit. Officials said this will save time for visitors and reduce pressure on prison facilities.
