ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s fastest female sprinter, Tameen Khan, has withdrawn from the upcoming World Athletics Championship in Tokyo due to injury, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Tameen was scheduled to compete in the 100-meter sprint event later this month. However, her injury has forced her to pull out of the prestigious competition.
The Athletics Federation of Pakistan had secured a special entry for the young athlete, who has been regarded as one of the country’s most promising track talents.
Officials expressed disappointment over her withdrawal but voiced hope for her full recovery and return to international competitions in the near future.
According to medical reports, an MRI revealed the nature of the injury, and doctors have advised her to take at least two weeks of rest, ruling her out of the event. Tameen was set to compete in the 100-meter sprint, for which the Athletics Federation of Pakistan had secured a special entry.
Her withdrawal means that Pakistan’s sole representation at the championship will now rest with javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, who remains the country’s leading medal hope on the global stage.
Officials expressed regret at Tameen’s setback but voiced optimism that she would make a strong comeback to international athletics after recovery.
