UNHCHR urges India to ease curfew in IoK

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet appealed India to ease curfew in occupied Kashmir and provide Kashmiris access to basic facilities.

Addressing a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed deep concerns over the impact of human rights by the Indian actions in occupied Kashmir including suspension of internet communications, peaceful assembly and the detention of Kashmiri political leaders and activists.

Michelle Bachelet said that Dehli government should include Kashmiris in every decision regarding the future of Kashmir.

UN High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet also expressed concern on the cancellation of the citizenship of more than 1 million people in Assam, including Muslims by Indian government.

She said it has caused great uncertainty and anxiety among the people about the removal of 1.9 million people from the final list released on 31 August.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, asked Indian government to address the grievances of the people in the required process and prevent deportation or detention.
